Campbell wanted here?

The Independent has more on the ousting of outsider spin doctor Stephen Carter from No 10 by "Labour's old guard". Apparently:

Gordon Brown is looking for a "more political" and aggressive chief adviser to fulfil the role that Alastair Campbell performed for Tony Blair...

Mr Brown has floated the idea of appointing Alastair Campbell, but the former director of communications for Tony Blair is reluctant to take on the job again, having "got his life back".

The idea of Campbell returning to No 10 is bonkers. Apart from anything else, he and his spin and bullying will immediately become the story for a hostile press.

Sour Grapes?

According to Press Gazette,

PR Week has hit back at accusations that it is being “used” by Downing Street communications staff to leak stories about a power struggle within Number 10.

The accusations have come from the Times and the Guardian. Are they upset that Number 10 isn't using them, as usual?

Slight mistake

The Guardian has another gossipy story about the attempts of Gordon Brown's new spin doctor, Stephen Carter, to cheer up his image. It mentions that Brown made a slip of the tongue in refering to Nelson Mandela having been released from prison in our lunchtime. It then comments:

Brown is not renown for making mistakes in speeches.

No, but the Grauniad's mistakes are legendary.
